Flashbash

The Flashbash is an uncommon ranged weapon. It is an unusual steampunk shotgun that somewhat resembles an antique camera. It has a bellows on top of the weapon that pumps up and down when idle, a glass bulb on the back holding some kind of electrical energy, and a crank handle on the bottom.

When reloading, the weapon is turned downward and the lever on the bottom is repeatedly cranked, actuating the bellows and overloading the electrical bulb. This causes a camera-flash-like burst of light that causes enemies in a large circular radius to suffer from an electric DOT.

It fires a massive spread of 20 photon projectiles with good range and velocity that penetrate up to 4 enemies.

Notes

  • The Flashbash is a competent if somewhat unwieldy shotgun weapon with above-average damage but a lower than average rate of fire. The electrical DOT on reload and projectile penetration encourages the player to try to get enemies to group up as much as possible at close range to maximize ammo efficiency.
  • The electrical DOT triggers when the weapon is almost fully reloaded, so try to back away when starting to reload and then start closing the distance again as it progresses to take advantage of the free electrical stun.
  • It is possible to expend a single shot and then reload the weapon as a fight begins to take advantage of the DOT at the start of every encounter.

Trivia

  • Despite claiming to be steam powered, the weapon actually appears to derive power from its bellows and electrical bulb system, which itself appears to be hand-cranked.
